Town Hall: Prepare for Maryland’s Family & Medical Leave Insurance Program
Join us for a virtual Town Hall to help your credit union prepare for implementation of Maryland’s Family and Medical Leave Insurance program.
What’s happening: Legislation passed in 2022 established Maryland’s family and medical leave insurance program which gives employees time away from work to care for themselves or a family member while still earning up to $1,000 a week for up to 12 weeks.
Why it matters: Employers with 15 or more employees must participate in the program, which is funded by contributions to be paid by employers and employees.
Details: Last June, the state’s Department of Labor created The Division of Family and Medical Leave Insurance, FAMLI, to guide the implementation and regulation of the new paid leave benefits law and program.
Timeline: The contribution start date is expected to be July 2025, with benefits expected to become available by July 2026.
How to prepare: Join us Thursday, February 15 at 9:00 am to ask your questions and hear from FAMLI’s Director of Policy Regan Vaughan and Community and Stakeholder Engagement Lead, Stacey Jefferson about how FAMLI will work and what you can do now to prepare. Attorney John Bredehoft will also offer guidance on what credit unions need to keep in mind during and after implementation.
