2019 Emerging Leader Award

The MD|DC Credit Union Association is accepting nominations for the Miriam Rivera Lieb Emerging Leader Award through March 11, 2019.

The award recognizes a young professional, 40 and under, who is highly engaged in the success of their credit union and demonstrates the potential to be one of the next generation of leaders in the credit union movement. The award competition is open only to employees of credit union affiliates of the MD|DC Credit Union Association. The award honors the legacy of Miriam Rivera Lieb who was a passionate advocate and leader in the credit union movement.

Nominees will compete for a professional development package, sponsored by CUNA Mutual Group, worth up to $5,000 and includes:

• Executive coaching
• Conference scholarship (CUNA’s Emerging Leader Institute or Young Professionals Conference)
• Airfare and accommodations to visit CUNA and CUNA Mutual Group headquarters in Madison, Wisconsin
• Attend a meeting of the MD|DC Credit Union Association board of directors
• Lunch with CUNA president/CEO Jim Nussle and MD|DC Credit Union Association president/CEO John Bratsakis

Runners-up will receive an executive coaching session.

Nominations can be made by a peer or supervisor, or a young professional can nominate themselves. Written and video submissions will be evaluated by a panel of judges who will select the top nominees. Finalists will submit videos then be posted online where the public can vote for their favorite. Finalists will present their ideas on positioning credit unions for the future to attendees at the Association’s Annual Meeting & Convention in Ocean City, Maryland on June 4. Here are the key dates and phases of the competition:

Nomination phase: February 12 – March 11
Eligible young professionals may apply by completing a nomination application describing their role in their credit union, professional accomplishments and what distinguishes them as an Emerging Leader. They must also submit a 2-3 minute original video in which they pitch an innovative idea or program that addresses: 
How can credit unions better position themselves as the best financial choice for consumers?

Selection Phase: March 12 – April 1
A panel of judges will evaluate written and video applications submitted. The results will be tabulated, and the top nominees will be named as Finalists. Finalists will be notified by email and announced on the website (mddccua.org) on or about April 1, 2019.

Online voting phase: April 15 – May 6
Finalists will submit videos that will be posted online, allowing the public and credit unions to vote for their favorite.

Final presentation: June 4, 2019
Finalists will present their ideas during the Association’s annual business meeting in Ocean City, Maryland. Attendees will vote on the presentations and a winner will be decided based on a combination of online voting, judges’ evaluations and votes cast by conference attendees.
