Top 10 Fraud and Operational Risks You Need to be Aware of Today

Running a credit union is different now. Economic drivers, the current regulatory and social climate, and technology advances have all increased exposures for credit unions and the people who run them. In this session the presenter will talk about current loss trends and give insights into emerging risk from the insurance perspective and how they fit into the credit union’s overall risk environment (please note: this session will not address interest rate, credit or liquidity risks). You will obtain recommendations on setting a risk tolerance strategy that aligns with business goals and tips on how/when a director should react in specific instances that could pose a threat to your credit union.

As a member of the Gen Y, or Millennial, generation you are part of the fastest-growing generation in the workforce today. Execution and Excellence

Business strategist, author and speaker John Spence says his research shows most organizations only successfully “execute about 10 to 15 percent of their strategy.” That eye-opening statistic is a bit disappointing. If your organization has trouble successfully implementing every good project and initiative, Spence’s “nine steps for effective execution” may help.

We will also touch on mobile banking, P2P payments, mobile wallets, and other emerging payment technologies that are beginning to evolve.

Building a Successful Enterprise Risk Management Program

An enterprise risk management (ERM) program is more than a collection of organizational functions. ERM integrates all risk efforts under one set of common definitions, process framework and system solutions. Join us for this informative discussion with CUNA Mutual Group. Attendees will take away some proven leading practices in effect.

CFPB Update

Remember the good old days when it was just NCUA?  Now there's a new sheriff in town - the CFPB.   Currently the CFPB has 1,200 employees who are looking for many ways to keep busy.   They have issued thousands of pages of regulations that are having a daily impact on credit unions.  There is talk that they are now targeting student loans and Courtesy Pay.   What can you do?  Learn more from Andy Keeney, a nationally recognized credit union attorney who is the legal counsel to the Association and one of our preferred partners.

Getting More Strategic about Loan Growth and Profitability

Credit unions across the nation have experienced nominal growth due to economic conditions that have resulted in high unemployment, increased bankruptcies, and a lack of consumer spending. Successful credit unions must be innovative and proactive, not reactive, in their effort to maximize loan growth and profitability while managing risks and minimizing losses in challenging times.

  • Understand economic trends and the impact on credit unions
  • Discover the power of creative strategic leaders
  • Explore ways to maximize loan growth and profitability through a holistic leadership/management approach
  • Identify risk management strategies to minimize delinquencies and loan losses
  • Explore creative strategies that create win/win/win solutions: a win for the credit union; a win for the member; and a win for the employee

3:15 – 4:15 pm

Leveraging Digital Media to Grow Your Business

Five Concerns Examiners Have About Overdraft Programs

Overdraft programs continue to be a valuable service offering for consumers. Given changes to government rules and increased regulatory scrutiny, credit unions must provide members with a clearly defined program that provides a financial safety net.  You will be guided in the right direction to better manage compliance concerns and offer an overdraft program to members that provides value and is effective for reaching your goals.

  • A look into fully disclosed overdraft programs and consumer protection
  • Importance of measuring program effectiveness and value

Service Standards = Member Loyalty:  10 Behaviors that Influence a Member's Experience

What do you see happening when you walk into your branches?  When member service representatives open accounts, are they asking the right questions and demonstrating the knowledge they need in order to attract an additional share of your member's wallet.  When you place a call to your Call Center, are the agents doing what your members expect?  Are they doing more than your members expect?  These questions are at the heart of the key behaviors that can lead to a superior member experience.  In today’s competitive financial services world in which your local superstore is competing for your members’ checking accounts, every interaction can be the difference between maintaining a single product relationship and becoming your member’s full-service, trusted financial advisor.  You will leave this session with tools to take back to your branch, your department, or your executives to start improving the member experience immediately.
