Planning Session Facilitation
MD|DC CUA offers strategic planning facilitation for its affiliates. They design each program specific to the needs of the credit union. MD|DC CUA staff provides expertise on current market trends as well as knowledge of regulatory and compliance requirements.
As credit unions have grown in complexity the importance of strategic planning has changed. In recent years, regulators have stressed the importance of developing a formal, written strategic plan. The plan should serve as a guideline for management and the board and allow the regulators to understand what credit unions are trying to accomplish. Regulators expect that the Board understands the overall performance of the organization and has determined its own risk tolerance. A well-developed Strategic Plan allows the credit union to identify goals and objectives over the short and medium term (one to three years). It is important that the board, management and staff recognize and work together in reaching the credit union's objectives.
A key to our planning sessions is to assist Boards in clarifying the organization's Vision, Values and Purpose. We also work with management to recommend strategies and practices that will move the organization to the successful realization of the Board's Vision. Both the credit union board and management will gain additional insight from a credit union financial and peer analysis. This often results in a greater awareness of their particular responsibilities to the credit union, and especially in identifying the strengths and weaknesses of the individual credit union. We also work to assist management in recommending appropriate metrics to track organizational performance and progress.
Planning Sessions can include the following elements:
- Review of the Credit Union's Mission Statement
- Review of last year's strategic objectives and goals
- Peer to Peer analysis
- Review of current products and services offered by credit union
- Pre Planning Session Survey
- Perform a SWOT Analysis
- Define objectives and goals for the next 3 years
- Identify strategies for each objective
- Identify persons responsible for each objective and goal
