2013 marks the 50th Anniversary of Baltimore County Employees Federal Credit Union. Based in Towson, Maryland, the seat of Baltimore County Government, the Credit Union was established on January 15, 1963, to serve the financial needs of county workers and their families. Ten years ago, a full-service branch office was opened in Perry Hall to accommodate the large percentage of members residing in the Eastern section of the county. These two offices, with a team of over 50 employees, serve nearly 28,000 members.
The 50th Annual Meeting of its members was held on April 9, 2013, at Columbus Gardens with nearly 200 in attendance. The event featured presentations on the Credit Union’s financial status, committee reports, and statements by Board Chair Douglas L. Burgess and Credit Union President David P. Hagar, who has led the staff since 1997. The Annual Report for 2012 was presented to the membership followed by dinner and dessert. The event’s commemorative theme was evident by the 50th Anniversary décor, a specially decorated cake, and history displays showing the Credit Union’s progress over five decades.
Twenty lucky members were each awarded a $50 VISA Gift Card and all attendees received a commemorative tote bag as a keepsake. Marketing Coordinator Nick Prevas provided some interesting historical facts and acknowledged special attendees such as the wife of Harris Shalowitz, a founding member from 1963, Carroll McComas, who served as Chairman of the Board for a decade (1979-1989), and Robin Reeve, a 37-year employee with the longest tenure of the current staff.
A highlight of the evening was the distribution of the publication entitled, “Celebrating a Half-Century of serving our Members.” This 12-page synopsis of Credit Union history includes great nostalgic photos allowing older members to reminisce their past while younger members get a chance to see how the Credit Union has evolved over the years.
Today, with assets over $300 million, the Credit Union, which is insured by the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA), provides over 40 convenient services including conveniences such as Online Banking, Bill Pay, a SmartCash Check Card, Mobile Banking, Home Loans, Direct Deposit, and a VISA Platinum Credit Card with Rewards.
