Educational Systems Federal Credit Union, together with The Gazette, sponsored the high school award in the 2013 "My Favorite Teacher" contest. This year's award was presented to Darrell Holloman II, a social studies teacher at Bishop McNamara High School. Held at Prince George's Community College, attendees at the event honored one teacher from elementary, middle and high school. The finalists were selected based on 124,000 votes received from students, educators and community members in Prince George's County.
Each teacher was nominated by a student who submitted a short essay on why they felt their teacher should be recognized for the award. Kevin Glotfelty, an 11 grade student at Bishop McNamara High School, said his teacher is, "A man you want to have conversations with. He always tries to push you to do your best and go beyond an assignment; he wants you to want to find out more than you have to." Educational Systems FCU has been a proud sponsor of the "My Favorite Teacher" award since the program began six years ago.
“We are proud to sponsor the Annual Prince George's County 'My Favorite Teacher' high school award and support education in our community," commented Chris Conway, President/CEO of Educational Systems FCU. “We congratulate Mr. Holloman II on being one of those extraordinary people who share a remarkable commitment to help others grow, look for new ways of doing things and continually aspire to make a difference."
