On Tuesday, November 19, 2013, Signal Financial FCU -- a non-profit, member-owned financial institution – showed its support for those in need by participating in the Food2Feed Fundraiser sponsored by Howard University.  For 36 years, WHUR-FM - Howard University Radio has hosted an annual food drive to feed the needy in the Washington, DC region for Thanksgiving with a live broadcast in November when they encourage the community to open their hearts and pocketbooks to those less fortunate.

Held on Tuesday, November 19th from 6am -6pm at the Old Post Office Pavilion, people were asked to bring non-perishable food or make donations.Signal Financial representatives, Dynita Taylor and Michelle Calfee, were on hand to present a check on behalf of the credit union in the amount of $1000. Signal Financial’s donation alone was enough to feed 3,000 people!

100% of the monetary proceeds and non-perishable food will be donated to theCapital Area Food BankandShabach Ministries, Inc., non-profit (501c3) organizations that help needy families throughout the Washington region. Thousands of needy families, who may not otherwise enjoy a traditional Thanksgiving dinner with a turkey and all the trimmings, will be blessed because the Food2Feed community cared!

The credit union has sponsored other worthwhile causes in the past to benefit a variety of nonprofit organizations, including Our Daily Bread, a nonprofit organization which focuses on easing the plight of low income residents in the Fairfax, Virginia area; the Children’s National Medical Center’s Miracle Network; and other community organizations.  Signal Financial also participates in the Adopt-a-Family initiative each holiday season.
