The Federal Employee Education and Assistance Fund, commonly known as FEEA, is the only non-profit organization devoted solely to helping federal civilian and postal employees and their families. This charity provides scholarships and emergency financial help to those in need. With the furloughs that have taken place the last few months, FEEA has been overwhelmed by requests for loans from federal employees who have been personally impacted by the effects of reduced paychecks at a time when benefit costs are rising and pay freezes have been in-place for three years.
FEEA recently provided more than $350,000 in furlough-related loans to those facing reduced paychecks due to sequestration. As a result of the demand for this emergency support, FEEA is now unable to continue to offer these loans until their resources have been replenished. And now, with the government shutdown, demand for assistance from FEEA will be even greater.
Here is where FedChoice comes in! From October 1, 2013 through October 31, 2013, FedChoice will be conducting a fundraising campaign on behalf of FEEA. And with every contribution received, FedChoice will match the amount collected up to $5,000.00! That means, if $5,000.00 is raised, FedChoice will contribute an additional $5,000.00 for a grand total of $10,000.00! FedChoice encourages everyone to support this very worthy cause.
To participate in this fund drive, donations may be made directly to FEEA using the exclusive FedChoice web page which has been set up on the FEEA website - feea.org/FedChoice . Or, contributions may be offered at any of six FedChoice Financial Service Centers or by mailing a check (no cash please) to the FedChoice Financial Advisory Center - 10001 Willowdale Road, Lanham, MD 20706. Please visit the FedChoice website to learn more - fedchoice.org/about/unite-for-good-feea-fundraising-campaign.
FedChoice is conducting this fundraising program in conjunction with the ”Unite for Good” campaign which promotes credit union shared values of collaboration, a focus on members, community involvement and a dedication to financial well-being. By working to address our members’ financial pain points, FedChoice seeks to find ways to put more of their members’ hard-earned money back into their pockets, particularly as they face the financial impact of government shutdown, furloughs and budget cuts.
And FedChoice is also conducting a membership drive from October 1, 2013 through October 31, 2013. Membership is open to federal employees who live and/or work in the Washington DC., Baltimore or Philadelphia metro areas. Family or household members of federal employees are also eligible. And, FedChoice is still offering FreeChecking with no minimum deposit, no minimum monthly balance and no monthly fees plus Cash Back Debit Card Rewards. Members may save more of their hard-earned money as soon as they join. Go to fedchoice.org/join/ to get started today!
