Washington, District Of Columbia
MD|DC CUA hosted a press event and rally on September 5 at Credit Union House in Washington, D.C. In attendance were CEOs, employees, and volunteers from various Maryland & D.C. credit unions, as well as Association and CUNA staff (inlcuding CUNA CEO Bill Cheney and former CUNA CEO Dan Mica). MD|DC CUA President & CEO John Bratsakis thanked everyone for their efforts in support of the campaign and issued a challenge to credit unions from Maryland & D.C. to get an additional 5,000 contacts to Congress by September 12. Along with this call to action, Bratsakis extolled the virtues of credit unions and their not-for-profit business model, and called on lawmakers to ensure that the credit union business model remains viable through the protection of the credit union exemption from the federal income tax.
