Securityplus Federal Credit Union Celebrates 75th Anniversary

Sat, Apr 20, 2013

Baltimore, Maryland

Over 300 members enjoyed a reception and ceremonial cake cutting prior to the business meeting. Anthony Demangone, Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of NAFCU served as special guest speaker.

Prior to the reception, every member received a key and the chance to open a treasure chest containing $75 in honor of the Credit Union’s 75th anniversary.

Brett Noll, Securityplus CEO, stated, “My hope is that we’ll continue to help people in the communities we live and work, to thrive for another 75 years while operating with the same fundamental principles of service and integrity in which we were founded.”

Securityplus was established in 1938 as the SSA Baltimore Federal Credit Union to service the employees of the Social Security Administration – Baltimore. In the late 1970s, the Health Care Financing Administration (HCFA) was formed within SSA and allowed the Credit Union to service another agency of the federal government.

In 1991, Securityplus completed their first merger by combining with the Greater Baltimore Merchants Employees Credit Union (GBMECU). This merger provided them with their first service location outside of a government facility and was a stepping-stone in their goal to open a full-service branch to serve retirees and their family members.

In early 2006, the credit union changed their name to Securityplus Federal Credit Union to be much more inclusive of their membership – Baltimore area offices of SSA, Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (formerly HCFA), select employee groups, and anyone who lives, works, worships or attends school in the City of Baltimore.

Securityplus Federal Credit Union is a $363 million not-for-profit, member-owned, full service financial institution, with eight branches. Their newest branch will open in the Northwest Plaza Shopping Center (Baltimore

City) in late 2013.  Securityplus FCU serves over 33,000 members in the greater Baltimore community.
