Washington, District Of Columbia
Congressman Darrell Issa (R – CA 49) introduced legislation (HR 2793) on July 23 that would grant D.C. government the authority to spend city funds generated through tax collection without seeking approval from Congress, if Congress has not yet passed a spending bill approving the District’s budget. The House Oversight and Government Reform Committee briefly discussed the bill during its July 24 meeting, and approved the bill. HR 2793, which would also give the District the ability to set its own fiscal calendar, now awaits further action from the full House of Representatives.
