Filene Research Institute named Mel Gillen senior growth director. In this new role, Gillen’s focus will be on growing Filene’s relationship with member credit unions and ensuring relevant research and programs are translated into action to help credit unions grow and thrive. Together with Filene’s engagement team, Mel will help lead growth and engagement strategies for Filene’s diverse portfolio of member relationships to support the long-term goal of changing people’s lives through ideas, truth and cooperation.
“Mel has a long and impressive tenure within the credit union system,” said Mark Meyer, Filene CEO. “She has an incredible passion for credit unions and an impressive history of serving this industry. We look forward to the many gifts she brings to enable us to better serve credit unions through our research and actionable ideas.”
Prior to joining Filene, Gillen worked with CUNA Mutual Group as a sales executive and most recently served as their Director, Capability Leader, Large Account Strategy. Starting with the company in 2001, Mel perfected her skills in supporting sales organization, agile methodology and organizational transformation.
“Throughout my career I have come to admire the thought leadership and passion for growth that Filene brings to our industry,” Gillen said. “I’m ecstatic to now be a part of helping credit unions tap into all things Filene, in order to feed their growth and relevancy for future generations.”
Gillen is one of the special few who have been a part of the credit union movement her entire life. Her credit union career began as a teller while attending the University of Maine. She later completed her MBA from Thomas College and worked her way up to Senior Vice President of a credit union on the east coast.
Although credit unions have always been a part of her life, Gillen is also an avid reader, hiker and chef, and enjoys traveling with her family. Her responsibilities as senior growth director began on February 18, working from Filene’s headquarters in Madison, WI. The Filene team has been non-stop asking for her book recommendations, favorite recipes and travel tips since.
