The MD|DC Credit Union Association will begin accepting nominations for the new Miriam Rivera Lieb Emerging Leader Award through March 19, 2018. The award recognizes a young professional, under the age of 40, who is highly engaged in the success of their credit union and demonstrates the potential to be one of the next generation of leaders in the credit union movement. The award competition is open to employees of credit union affiliates of the MD|DC Credit Union Association.
The award honors the legacy of Miriam Rivera Lieb who was a passionate advocate and leader in the credit union movement. “Mimi” as she was known to her credit union colleagues, served credit unions for more than three decades before retiring in 2007 after 24 years as CEO of Transportation Federal Credit Union. She believed that credit unions should reflect the core principles of the movement – people helping people, and she embodied those principals in her service to the movement and as a mentor to other credit union leaders. The Emerging Leader Award recognizes a young professional who shares Mimi’s dedication to making a difference in peoples’ lives, and has demonstrated the potential to be a leader. - Airfare and accommodations to visit CUNA and CUNA Mutual Group headquarters in Madison, Wisconsin

“The MD|DC Credit Union Association is excited to introduce this unique experience to help cultivate and energize the next generation of credit union leaders,” said John Bratsakis, president/CEO, MD|DC Credit Union Association. “The Emerging Leader Award honors Mimi Lieb’s legacy by recognizing a young professional committed to the credit union difference. The competition is a great opportunity for young professionals to share innovative ideas and show what they can do to ensure credit unions are well-positioned for the future.”
Nominations can be made by a peer or supervisor, or a young professional can nominate themselves. Written and video submissions will be evaluated by a panel of judges who will select the top nominees (up to five) whose submissions will then be posted online where the public can vote for their favorite. Finalists will present their ideas on positioning credit unions for the future to attendees at the Association’s Annual Meeting & Convention in Ocean City, Maryland on June 5.
