Please consider volunteering for the next Credit Union Financial Reality Fair in the District on Friday, March 23 at the Metropolitan Police Department's Police Academy. 250 police cadets will be participating and we need your help. Participants will have the opportunity to simulate responsible adult spending, budgeting and money management as if they were living on their own. This event gives participants interactive hands-on experience with balancing a budget and living within their disposable monthly net income, while paying for basic needs such as housing, utilities, transportation, food and other living essentials. The fair teaches basic money management skills that are key to economic and career success.
Why You're Needed
Volunteers are critical to the success of the program as they are needed to encourage participants to spend for essential needs and wants. Volunteers help to disseminate information about the products and services at each consumer booth.
Other volunteers (financial counselors) assist students at the end of the event, explaining to the students the pitfalls to avoid, ensuring that they have enough disposable income to live on each month. It is a fun and engaging way to highlight the importance of spending and saving habits.
March 23rd from 8:00 am - 1:30 pm
