Members and staff of Johns Hopkins Federal Credit Union collected children’s books for the Maryland Book Bank’s, Books for Kids Event on Saturday, May 6th. JHFCU representatives, Kristy Jacobs, Amanda Dash, Holly Green, Raven Sydiskis, and Shauna Stroble, volunteered delivering, sorting, and organizing the hundreds of books that were generously donated. The Maryland Book Bank’s goal of 30,000 books collected for the event was met and surpassed.
Lynn Gregory, JHFCU Senior VP of Marketing & Member Services became a supporter of the Maryland Book Bank while in grad school at Johns Hopkins University. Her professor was on the board of “Baltimore Reads”, the predecessor of the Maryland Book Bank, and as part of the class, were tasked to raise awareness about the organization. “Since then I’ve supported them through donations of books and money. I feel reading is not only a skill of necessity, but one that can bring you joy. So when JHFCU’s Outreach Committee was looking for ideas, I thought a book drive may be something staff could do that would help a great cause,” said Lynn Gregory, Senior VP of Marketing & Member Services.
The Maryland Book Bank is a nonprofit organization committed to cultivating literacy in children from low income families. They distribute over 150,000 free books to children, teachers, schools and organizations throughout Maryland each year.
