Maryland Senator-Elect Chris Van Hollen (D) has been tapped to replace retiring Senator Barbara Mikulski (D) on the Senate Appropriations Committee in Washington, D.C.
Van Hollen’s appointment to the committee is good news for Maryland, as members of the committee have the opportunity to advocate for federal money and projects to be directed back to their home states.
Also announced was Van Hollen’s appointment to chair the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee for the 2018 midterm election cycle. He will lead the party’s efforts to retain existing and gain additional sets in the Senate. Van Hollen headed the party’s Congressional Campaign Committee from 2007 until 2011.
