CUNA Mutual Group Celebrates 16 Million TruStage™ Customers

CUNA Mutual Group announced today its TruStage brand now protects more than 16 million credit union members with auto, home, life, accidental death and dismemberment and health insurance. To celebrate its new milestone, the company has donated $16,000 to DonorsChoose.org through the insurer’s charitable giving arm, the CUNA Mutual Foundation. The gift honors 16 U.S. credit unions and supports school projects in their local communities.

The TruStage suite of insurance products continues to experience substantial growth, protecting a new member every 29 seconds. The company credits this to its focus and investment in understanding the middle market consumer and building an experience they value so they can build financial security for their families.

“Understanding consumer needs and preferences allows us to continuously improve how we reach and serve them,” said Susan Sachatello, senior vice president, TruStage. “We use consumer insights to sharpen our member experience, including how we develop media plans, design products and improve consumer touch points to protect more members with the right coverage.”

Life insurance is an important element in building financial security and a key product within the TruStage portfolio. Research shows 78 percent of Americans consider life insurance an important part of their overall financial plan and estate planning, and 62 percent say family is the number one reason for purchasing1.

“I was thinking about my siblings and how their lives would be affected if I didn’t leave anything,” said Kurk Brown, a member of MECU of Baltimore, Inc. “My father passed, and he didn’t have a policy. I just cannot do that to my siblings. It was important for me to provide for my siblings and give them something as a token of my love.”

Today, nearly 30 percent of Americans believe they need more life insurance, and more than 40 percent say they would feel a financial impact within six months if the primary wage-earner died2.
