Understanding the consumer and improving your ability to serve them is key to growth.

  • Consumer pollsters Garin, Hart and Yang will examine results of the latest MDDCCUA Consumer Poll, and review some surprising findings on the non-member perspective.
  • Callahan & Associates’ Chip Filson will consider the challenges of the current economy, options for market share growth, and detail the condition of your credit union in today’s market.
  • Craig Beach of CU Service Centers will analyze strategies for overcoming challenges through better member access.
  • Legislative updates, media training, and peer discussion round out the Forum.

Leading experts in the credit union movement will offer their perspectives on challenges of the current economy, understanding and using options for market share growth, and development of members access.  Participants will receive materials designed to address immediate and long-term options to improve market share within their service areas.  

Credit union personnel, including CEOs, senior management, Board Chairs, Vice-Chairs and Committee Members, are invited. 

Presenters

Garin-Hart-Yang Research Group

The Garin-Hart-Yang Research Group conducted the most recent MDDCCUA Consumer Poll of non-credit union members. They are a division of Peter D. Hart Research Associates, one of the most respected and successful political polling firms in the country.

The firm has assisted in more than 400 political campaigns and counts among its current clients 10 members of the U.S. Senate, 16 members of the U.S. House of Representatives, and five sitting governors. Garin-Hart-Yang also has been the lead pollster on the influential Women's Monitor national polling projects for EMILY's List over the past four election cycles.

Chip Filson
President, Callahan & Associates

Chip Filson has been active in the credit union movement for more than 25 years. He is a nationally recognized author, speaker and consultant.

As president of Callahan & Associates Inc., Chip provides strategic planning, consulting services, and financial publications for the credit union community. Chip co-founded Callahan & Associates in 1985 and, under his leadership, the firm has become one of the nation's leading suppliers of financial performance analysis for credit unions.

Callahan's publishes ten different guides to the industry, including Callahan's Credit Union Directory, the most comprehensive listing of credit unions in the world. In 1999, Callahan's launched CreditUnions.com the premier online resource for credit union data and trends. Callahan's is also the general partner of the Trust for Credit Unions, the first and largest mutual fund family created by and for credit unions, with over $4.0 billion in total assets.

Chip served as Supervisor of the Illinois Credit Union Division before going to NCUA with Ed Callahan and Bucky Sebastian in the early 1980s, at a time of dramatic change. At the NCUA, Chip served as President of the Central Liquidity Facility and Director of the Office of Examinations, where he was responsible for the examination program and the NCUSIF. Chip, Ed and Bucky are best remembered as the architects of the deregulation of federal credit unions, the capitalization of the NCUSIF, and the opening of the CLF to all credit unions.

Craig Beach
Senior Vice President, CO-OP Shared Branching

Craig Beach is Senior Vice President marketing/business development for CO-OP Shared Branching where he is responsible for the total marketing, advertising and sales for the corporation, which represents the cooperative product of shared branching. Prior to his current position, he was Vice President/COO of Georgia Central Credit Union for nine years; helping build the corporate credit union to an over $1 billion organization for Georgia credit unions.

Beach has been involved in many aspects of credit union business in his 21 year tenure, including branch management, compliance, investments, cash management, and now shared branching/EFT. Additionally, Beach served several years as a credit union auditor for the Alabama Credit Union League’s central district. Beach began his career in credit unions in Colorado after graduating with a BS in Business Admin/Marketing from the University of Northern Colorado.  He is married with three daughters.

APCO Worldwide

APCO Worldwide is a global leader in public relations and messaging.  As a partner of the Maryland and DC Credit Union Association, APCO has provided invaluable counsel to nurturing a cohesive regional strategy that impacts consumers, legislators and regulators, as well as providing media training for credit unions.

Saturday, March 27

  • Closing Remarks - 10:00 a.m.
  • Golf at Harbourtowne Golf Course - 12:00 p.m.

Registration is $595.00 for participants and $225.00 for guests.

Special hotel rates have been negotiated for attendees and are available through Harbourtowne.  St. Michaels offers a picturesque setting for discussion among CU management and volunteers. Golf, shopping and other amenities are available.
