Session Overview
Labor and employment issues continue to dominate legislative agendas in the D.C. Council and Maryland General Assembly. New laws taking effect, and new bills being proposed, will directly impact your credit union. 

To help your credit union comply with laws on paid leave, minimum wage and commuter benefits, the MD|DC Credit Union Association, in partnership with Kaufman & Canoles, P.C., is hosting a webinar on Wednesday, February 21 from 10:00 am to 11:30 a.m. Along with guidance on existing laws, presenters will discuss bills introduced to ban salary history disclosure in D.C. and raise the minimum wage in Maryland. The webinar will also include updates on issues impacting credit unions locally and nationally such as ADA website compliance, Remote Capture Deposit and Senator Hatch’s letter to the NCUA..

E. Andrew Keeney is a nationally recognized credit union attorney and Co-Chair of Kaufman & Canoles’ Credit Union Team.  Andy has been committed to the representation of credit unions for over three decades.  In addition to serving as the in-house counsel for State Department FCU and the Pentagon FCU, Andy has represented many credit unions, leagues, and associations, as well as the NCUA.  Andy is a frequent lecturer on a wide variety of credit union topics and a featured contributor to many credit union publications, including Credit Union Times, CUES, and CU Management.



John Bredehoft, Esq.
Kaufman & Canoles, P.C.

John Bredehoft is a member of the firm of Kaufman & Canoles, P.C., focusing on litigation and litigation avoidance strategies. He has extensive experience in employment related and discrimination matters, and is a member of the firm's Credit Union team. John successfully represented Northwest Federal Credit Union in its ADA website compliance lawsuit, which was dismissed without prejudice by a federal judge in late January. Bredehoft is an honors graduate of Harvard College and Harvard Law School.

John Bratsakis, President/CEO
MD|DC Credit Union Association

John Bratsakis is the President and Chief Executive Officer of The Maryland and District of Columbia Credit Union Association.
John has a 29 year history in the Credit Union movement and has an extensive background in credit union operations and advocacy. Bratsakis joined the MD|DC Credit Union Association in 2011 as President/CEO. Prior to joining the Association he Senior Vice President of Baxter Credit Union (BCU) in Vernon Hills, IL. There he was influential in developing new business relationships with key sponsor companies for the $2.8 billion credit union and represented the credit union at the state and national level regarding governmental/regulatory affairs, as well as managing multiple departments within the credit union. Prior to joining BCU he was CEO OF Community Trust Credit Union, a $160 million credit union in Gurnee, IL for 10 years. He has also served on the Illinois Credit Union League and Service Corporation Board of Directors for over 10 years, serving as Chair from 2008 to 2010.

John serves on the system wide CUNA Awareness Committee, and is an InfoSight Board Member and Chair of the Plexcity Board. John has also sat on the National Credit Union Roundtable and CUNA Governmental Affairs committees.

Preceding Baxter, John was President/CEO of Community Trust Credit Union, a $160 million credit union in Gurnee, IL. He has also held management positions with United Federal Credit Union in Michigan as VP of Operations from 2005 – 2007 and a variety of management positions with Teachers Credit Union in Indiana.
