Position Overview

Under general supervision, but following established policies and procedures, the Loan Servicing Specialist assists internal staff, Members and potential Members in understanding and utilizing Credit Union Loan Products, serves as the main liaison for all Collateral Protection Insurance issues, Auto loan payoffs including Total loss claims, MVA dealings for title perfecting, Gap claims, Disability claims, Life Insurance, and Death Claims.

This is a full-time position (Monday thru Friday) and the ideal candidate will have the flexibility to work occasional community events (once or twice a year), must consistently uphold the mission, vision, and core values of the credit union, and possesses the ability to cope in a team focused, fast-paced sales and service culture.


  • Perform quality control for new loans by verifying the accuracy of loan documentation; ensuring loan files contain documents with proper signatures, dates, proper vesting, legal descriptions, etc. and securing any outstanding elements and maintain a detailed quality control report and update as items are completed.
  • Perform all aspects of claims processing for Total losses, Gap claims, life and disability/debt protection, and collateral protection insurances and security interest filings, as well as all related inquiries. Produce and mail appropriate notices and letters to Members with regards to their Lien being perfected, paid off.
  • Perform all aspects of collateralized loan payoffs; dealer, Member and/or insurance. Ensure the title work is complete and released (excluding Home loan products).
  • Maintain accurate loan documentation until SIFs/title information is received and scanned; and resolve all title issues after loan funding until perfected lien is documented.
  • Prepare lien release letters, prepare and submit ELT documents for titles, release ELTs on paid off reports, prepare letters of guarantees for Insurance companies, create new ELTs for vehicle loans.
  • Assist in the closure of share/checking accounts in accordance with required deceased account procedures. Submit the Credit Life insurance claims, and claims against estates on deceased Members to collect on accounts with outstanding loans.
  • Assist in the proper placement of funds when claim payments are received from TruStage.
  • Perform other loan support and back-office duties as assigned by the Loan Manager, including clerical duties requiring knowledge of departmental procedures, using office computers and financial processing platforms for data input and other activities.
  • Assist collections dept in referring charged off loan accounts to CU Attorneys (Silverman) and charged off share draft account to collection company (RA Rogers).
  • Complete charged off share maintenance.
  • Provide administrative assistance to the lending staff, including updating loan data in the credit union’s computers, processing letters and assembling documentation for Member loans, and more.
  • Provide administrative assistance and loan maintenance for the Skip-A-Pay program.
  • Provide administrative assistance with loan adjustments/corrections.
  • Enter data needed to create new title records or update existing ones; maintain Security Interest Filing reports with updated notes on contacts made and status of the perfected title.
  • Serve as information resource, both internally and externally on deceased Members accounts.
  • Promote and cross-sell credit union products.
  • Address Members’ questions and/or complaints or refers them to relevant departments or personnel providing specialized services as necessary.
  • Participate in training opportunities provided for compliance and job-related purposes (i.e. online, in-house, seminars, etc.).
  • Provide support for various insurances; i.e. CDI, DP, CPI, TruStage, State National, Trans America, etc.
  • Other duties as assigned

Education & Experience

  • Requires High School Diploma or GED
  • Minimum 3 years Credit Union experience with previous loan support experience and credit training required


  • Demonstrated knowledge of Credit Union lending policies and procedures preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret completed loan applications, handle the processing sequence and infer necessary response and resolve problems preferred
  • Requires basic knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as policy, procedure and regulatory manuals for lending and deposit accounts
  • Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills (Spanish speaking a plus) as well as an ability to write professional correspondence
  • Ability to cope with the pressure of a fast-paced environment and working directly with Members who may frequently be impatient or irate
  • Ability to comprehend and enforce applicable policies and procedures, to make sound decisions, take action and accept responsibility for the outcome
  • Ability to comprehend and communicate the terms and benefits of all products, services, lending products, policies and guidelines, etc., to facilitate comprehensive financial services to Members
  • Actively and enthusiastically facilitates the cross-selling of various credit union products and services
  • Ability to meet deadlines, multitask and pay attention to detail
