New campaign launch aims to stop check fraud before it starts

Check fraud continues to be one of the fastest-growing forms of financial fraud, making consumer education more important than ever.
To help credit unions raise awareness and protect their members, America’s Credit Unions and the American Association of Credit Union Leagues have partnered with America Saves to launch the “Check Yourself: Stop Check Fraud Before it Starts” campaign.
Throughout August, the campaign will feature weekly resources, including newsletter content, social media graphics, videos, blog posts, and more, to help educate consumers about common check fraud scams and ways to prevent them.
The campaign starts August 3, and addresses the following topics each week:
- Week 1: Aug. 3 – 7: What is Check Fraud?
- Week 2: Aug. 10 – 14: Types of Check Fraud
- Week 3: Aug. 17 – 21: Check Fraud Detection
- Week 4: Aug. 24 – 28: What to Do if You’re a Victim of Check Fraud
Credit unions are encouraged to participate in the campaign and can utilize the materials provided in the social toolkit.
