Association & Credit Unions Join Delaware Governor for Public Deposits Bill Signing

A significant step forward for Delaware communities and credit unions was celebrated today as Governor Matt Meyer signed Senate Bill 247 into law. Association representatives joined the governor and bill sponsor, Senate Banking Committee Chair Spiros Mantzavinos, for the signing ceremony, marking the culmination of an advocacy effort to expand opportunities for credit unions to serve public entities across the state.

The legislation builds on progress made last year when Delaware State Treasurer Colleen Davis affirmed during to the Association that Delaware credit unions are eligible to accept public deposits. The legislation clarifies that authority, ensuring credit unions can partner with government entities at every level.

During the ceremony, Delaware Credit Union Association Vice President of Advocacy Rory Murray emphasized the broader community impact of the legislation, noting that every dollar invested in credit unions remains in the local communities they serve. By expanding access to public deposits, the law helps keep more local dollars working within Delaware communities — supporting consumers, small businesses, and local economic growth.

The signing of Senate Bill 247 represents another important victory for credit union advocacy and reinforces the vital role credit unions play as trusted financial partners dedicated to community impact.
