NCUA Board Briefed on Four Key Topics at Meeting
The NCUA Board received briefings on four key topics at its meeting last week, including an update on its deregulation initiative, guidance on rules governing brokered and reciprocal deposits, and overviews of the agency’s 2026–2030 Strategic Plan and 2026 Annual Performance Plan.
Amanda Parkhill, Acting Director of the Office of Examination and Insurance, outlined Phase 1 of the agency’s Deregulation Project. This phase centers on targeted, technical updates aimed at eliminating outdated or unnecessary requirements while improving regulatory clarity. She noted the initiative is expected to extend into late 2026 or early 2027, with future phases shaped by policy priorities and stakeholder feedback.
NCUA General Counsel Frank Kressman also briefed the Board on brokered and reciprocal deposit arrangements. The briefing addressed the need for the FAQs, how insurance coverage for such deposits works, and the items for credit unions to consider in offering brokered and reciprocal deposits.
Additional updates on the 2026–2030 Strategic Plan and 2026 Annual Performance Plan provided clarity on each process’s objectives and timeline. Regarding the Strategic Plan, Chairman Kyle Hauptman highlighted continued efforts to modernize operations and improve efficiency by better aligning the agency’s structure, staffing, and priorities with its mission and emerging risks.
