Proposed Delaware Bill Aims to Clarify Credit Union Eligibility to Accept Public Funds
A proposed bill would formally clarify in Delaware law that credit unions are eligible to hold and accept public funds from municipalities. While state officials have confirmed this authority exists, it is not explicitly stated in current statute. The proposed amendment would update Titles 9 and 22 of the Delaware Code, which govern county and municipal government deposits, to remove any ambiguity.
This development follows a series of meetings between the MD|DC Credit Union Association and Governor Matt Meyer, Secretary of State Charuni Patibanda‑Sanchez, and State Treasurer Colleen Davis. During these discussions, state leaders confirmed that Delaware credit unions are eligible to accept public funds, provided they meet the requirements outlined in the state’s Request for Proposal (RFP) process.
The bill is expected to be introduced in March. The Association will keep members informed as it moves through the legislative process.
