Democracy FCU Spreads Holiday Cheer Through Community Outreach

Democracy Federal Credit Union (DFCU) marked the holiday season with a series of community outreach efforts centered on service, connection, and local impact. From volunteer visits to senior centers to a large-scale clothing donation benefiting Martha’s Table, the credit union reinforced its long-standing commitment to the communities it serves.

DFCU staff hosted senior sing-along events at two local senior centers, joining residents for an afternoon of holiday music and conversation. According to Andrena Smith, interim CEO of Democracy Federal Credit Union, the visits reflect the credit union’s broader approach to community engagement. “These moments remind us that community impact isn’t always about numbers—it’s about presence,” Smith said. “Seeing residents engage, sing along, and share time with our team reinforces why this work matters.”

DFCU also donated more than 2,000 clothing items through its annual internal clothing drive, which encouraged participation through friendly competition among branches and departments. The effort will help ensure more families have access to much-needed clothing during the winter months.

“This year marks our credit union’s 90th anniversary,” Smith said. “Our culture of giving has always been part of who we are. What continues to stand out is how our team finds new ways to expand that impact and reach more families each year.”
