Association CEO Bratsakis Co-authors Op-ed with ACU Chair Pierce

The success credit unions have seen this year demonstrates the power of the credit union difference, and what’s possible when the movement works together. Association CEO and American Association of Credit Union Leagues Board Chair John Bratsakis and America’s Credit Unions Board Chair Patrick Pierce co-authored an op-ed published last week highlighting how when the credit union system collaborates, the impact is greater, and the outcomes are stronger.

“The cooperative principles that guide credit unions—member ownership, democratic participation, and commitment to community—aren’t just ideals. They shape how decisions are made and how the system responds when it counts,” they wrote. “When we stay grounded in those principles, we build trust, strengthen collaboration, and make progress that members can see and feel.”

Pierce and Bratsakis add that “stronger together” isn’t just a slogan, but a description of how each league and credit union has distinct challenges and needs while adding to the united voice that continues to get the attention of policymakers. “The challenges ahead are real. Regulatory expectations are shifting. Competition is intensifying. Member needs continue to grow. But the credit union system is built for moments like this. When it stays aligned, speaks clearly, and invests in strong partnerships, it doesn’t just protect what exists—it creates new opportunities,” they wrote. “That’s how credit unions deliver real wins for members, practical solutions for policymakers, and lasting value for communities.”
