Collections Symposium Highlights Collaboration, Empathy, and Innovation

The Collections Roundtable of the MD|DC Credit Union Association recently hosted a Collections Symposium, bringing together industry experts and credit union professionals for a day of learning, collaboration, and innovation in collections management. Sessions explored new strategies, best practices, and emerging trends shaping the future of collections, while networking opportunities allowed participants to connect and share experiences.

Amber Miller, Partner Experience Manager at GreenPath, reminded attendees that empathy starts with awareness, saying, “When we lead with empathy, we don’t just recover dollars, we restore trust.” Her session on Human-Centered Trust Building encouraged professionals to pause and ask, “Do you want advice or do you want to be heard?”

One of the day’s most memorable sessions was offered by Tyneka Pack from Impackt Fitness. Her presentation Stress, Burnout, and Beyond: Leading from the Inside Out inspired attendees to prioritize self-care. She noted, “You cannot pour from an empty cup, taking care of yourself is how you take care of others.”

Reflecting on the event, Nicole Galloway, AVP of Member Solutions at Educational Systems FCU and Chair of the Association’s Collections Roundtable, said, “With 36 credit Unions represented, nearly 60 participants, nine sponsors, five dynamic speakers, and seven engaged vendors, the Symposium demonstrated the true strength of collaboration in our movement. Our industry is evolving, and so must our approach to collections. This symposium showed that when we lead with empathy, expertise, and partnership, we do not just resolve delinquency; we restore hope, protect financial well-being and strengthen the communities we proudly serve.”
