Credit Union System Sees Steady Gains in Q2

The credit union industry continued to expand in the second quarter of 2025, with new NCUA data showing growth in assets, loans, and deposits.

Total assets at federally insured credit unions climbed by $82 billion over the past year—a 3.6% increase—reaching $2.38 trillion, according to the NCUA’s quarterly performance report. Loans also rose sharply, up $64 billion (3.9%) to $1.68 trillion. Deposits grew by $71 billion, or 4%, totaling $1.83 trillion.

“The last four quarters show that credit unions remain resilient, with steady growth across the board,” said NCUA Chairman Kyle Hauptman. “These trends point to a strong credit environment, giving members and businesses more access to funding while bolstering system-wide stability.”

  • Net income: $17.7 billion at an annual rate, up 13.2% from the same period in 2024.
