NCUA Offers New Resource to Streamline Exam Process

The NCUA has launched a new web page to help improve the efficiency of the exam process. The initiative is a response to feedback gathered from credit union post-exam surveys.

The new resource offers tips for credit unions to better manage the document request process. To aid examiners, the NCUA recommends that credit unions:

  • Organize documents by risk area: Place documents in folders that correspond to the risk areas on the document request list. The NCUA’s Secure File Transfer Portal allows for dragging and dropping entire folders.
  • Use a consistent naming convention: Save files with a naming convention that begins with the index number from the document request list.
  • List missing documents: Include a list of requested but not provided documents and explain the reason for their absence.
  • Provide contact information: Supply a name and contact for the primary credit union personnel for each review area.

The NCUA has also outlined steps for examiners to take to promote an organized exam. These steps include the examiner-in-charge determining the credit union’s preferred method for sharing files, notifying the credit union at least four weeks prior to an exam, and ensuring all members of the exam team have access to the provided documents
