Advocacy Roundup: NCUA Board Meeting & Reconciliation Moves Forward

The NCUA May Board meeting is scheduled for later this week, while Congress moves forward with the reconciliation process.

  • The reconciliation bill advanced through the House Budget Committee over the weekend, notably without any reference to the credit union tax status. President Trump is scheduled to visit Capitol Hill on Tuesday, ahead of a House Rules Committee meeting at 1:00 am Wednesday, which is expected to move the bill another step closer to a floor vote. House leadership aims to bring the sweeping legislation to the floor for a vote by the end of the week.
  • Tuesday, the House Financial Services Committee will mark up two dozen pieces of legislation, including the Taking Account of Institutions with Low Operation Risk (TAILOR) Act (H.R. 3380). The bill would require that rules promulgated by regulators be tailored to fit financial institutions’ business models and risk profiles.
  • Thursday, the NCUA board meeting gets underway at 10 am with Chairman Kyle Hauptman as the sole board member. The agenda features no voting items, but briefings on the National Credit Union Share Insurance Fund and the agency’s Voluntary Separation Programs.
