Regulatory Roundup: New NCUA Cyber Incident Reporting Tool & CFPB Withdraws Controversial Proposal

In this week’s Regulatory Roundup, the NCUA debuts a new cyber incident reporting tool, while the CFPB withdraws a controversial proposal.

NCUA

  • A new cyber incident reporting webform is now available from the agency. Credit unions have three options for notifying the NCUA, which include:
    • Complete the webform, which is secure and mobile device friendly.
    • Call the NCUA at 1.833.CYBERCU (1.833.292.3728) and leave a voicemail.
    • Email the NCUA utilizing the Secure Email Message Center to send a secure email to cybercu@ncua.gov
  • The NCUA board meets on Thursday with a briefing on its 2025 annual performance plan on the agenda.
  • As wildfires continue in the Greater Los Angeles area, the NCUA says it is monitoring the situation closely and has resources available to help affected credit unions. If you would like to help, the National Credit Union Foundation’s CUAid program is providing disaster relief.

CFPB

  • The CFPB is withdrawing a proposed rule to prevent financial institutions from charging non-sufficient funds fees for transactions that are instantaneously declined, according to an advanced notice in the Federal Register. The bureau will instead consider a “more comprehensive approach” that may involve restricting other NSF fees.
