Legislators to Return in MD, VA and DE

Legislators in Maryland and Virginia return tomorrow, while lawmakers in Delaware get back to work next week.
Maryland
The legislative session begins tomorrow in Annapolis, where state leaders will focus on addressing a projected $3 billion budget deficit. To date, 564 bills have been filed. The Association is closely monitoring House Bill 29, which seeks to exclude sales tax and tips from electronic payment interchange fees. Due to its potential fraud, security, and financial implications, the Association plans to strongly oppose this bill.
Virginia
Special elections held today will determine the balance of power in the Virginia General Assembly. Voters will decide on three key races: two Senate seats and one House seat. Currently, Democrats hold a narrow majority in Richmond, with a 21-19 advantage in the Senate and a 51-49 majority in the House of Delegates. Lawmakers will reconvene tomorrow for a six-week session, with critical issues on the agenda.
Delaware
Legislators in Delaware will return next week. The Association will review pre-filed bills, expected to be posted later this week, to identify any measures that could impact credit unions.
