DC Statehood Bills Introduced in Congress
Senator Chris Van Hollen is leading the push for DC statehood in the U.S. Senate, introducing the Washington, DC Admission Act last week with backing from 40 colleagues, including Virginia Senators Mark Warner and Tim Kaine, and Delaware Senator Chris Coons. In the House, Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton, DC’s non-voting representative, has introduced a companion version of the bill. The statehood legislation made history by passing the House for the first time in 2020, followed by passage again in 2021, though it stalled in the Senate both times.
