Andrews FCU Helps Feed Those in Need
Andrews FCU employee volunteers recently gave their time and energy to pack and deliver more than 700 turkeys across the credit union’s international service areas. The credit union also provided a grant to long-time nonprofit So Others May Eat (SOME).

Turkey Drive
The credit union donated the supplies to create Thanksgiving meal kits with turkeys, stuffing, mashed potatoes, green beans, and corn. These kits were then distributed to families in need across the credit union’s service areas in Maryland/DC/Virginia and New Jersey. The credit union also contributed funds to supply turkeys and Thanksgiving meal kits that brought a taste of home to the military communities Andrews Federal serves overseas.
According to Andrews Federal Credit Union’s Chief Operations Officer Damita Robinson, the turkey drive emphasizes many of the credit union’s core values. “We pride ourselves on being ready to serve and ready to solve,” Robinson said. “This annual event highlights the willingness of our credit union to give generously and serve families in our community. We are also honored by the commitment of our employees and the ways they stand ready to give to others. By giving their time to pack and deliver these meal kits, they were able to make the holidays more memorable and less stressful for those in need.”
The credit union partnered with several local organizations, including churches, synagogues, and community centers, to ensure meals were provided to families needing additional support and care during the holidays. This year marks the third consecutive year that Andrews Federal has supported its communities with this large-scale giving initiative.
SOME Grant
The grant to SOME will help the organization with its mission to assist the vulnerable and break the cycle of poverty for people in the Washington DC area.
In addition to the grant, Andrews Federal Business Development Manager Terry Grant also addressed the 2024 graduates of the SOME program, honoring them for their dedication to supporting their families and creating financial stability.
According to Andrews Federal Chief Retail Officer Marco Alvarez, the credit union views its business development efforts as a natural outreach tool and an opportunity to serve. “When our business development team connects with community partners, our goal is to provide them with resources – to support their programs and to provide financial guidance and tools to their people,” Alvarez said. “Our credit union business development professionals work with local businesses and community partners and offer credit union tools and financial education resources to help them create better financial opportunities for those they serve, and we are proud to continue furthering those efforts.”
