AACUL Welcomes Inaugural Director of Advocacy
Austin DeBey is joining the American Association of Credit Union Leagues (AACUL) in a newly developed position, Director of Advocacy, effective February 12th.
DeBey is currently the Vice President of Advocacy Operations and Legislative Affairs at the GoWest Credit Union Association. Austin has a proven 19-year track record of providing strategic leadership, coordinating projects, and leveraging the collective strength of credit unions working for single-state and multi-state leagues.
AACUL President Brad Miller shared, “Austin is experienced in developing and implementing advocacy strategies at both state and federal levels. He has developed a deep understanding of the needs and challenges faced by both leagues and credit unions. He is extremely knowledgeable about the broader political and policy landscape of the credit union system.”
AACUL recently announced an evolved committee structure to support its recently updated mission, vision and strategic pillars. The new committee structure includes an advocacy committee supported by four strategy work groups. DeBey will work closely with these groups to ultimately help protect and advance a vibrant credit union system.
“With our advocacy committee and strategy work group members appointed and our new advocacy director hired, we are hitting the ground running on our new strategic framework to better serve and support leagues and the credit union system,” announced Miller.
The GoWest Credit Union Association sent a statement of support to their members, emphasizing their excitement for DeBey and noting how his new role at AACUL will ultimately benefit credit unions nationwide.
