DC Council Passes Wage Transparency Bill

The DC Council passed the Wage Transparency Omnibus Amendment Act of 2023 today. The bill aims to increase transparency regarding compensation and benefits offered by employers in the District.

Key Provisions of the Act:

  • Salary Range Disclosure: Employers must disclose the minimum and maximum projected salary or hourly rate in all job postings and position descriptions.
  • Benefits Disclosure: Applicants must be informed of the full compensation package, including bonuses, healthcare and other wellness benefits, stocks, bonds, options, equity, and non-monetary remunerations, before the first interview.
  • Wage History Restrictions: The act prohibits employers from screening prospective employees based on their wage history or seeking wage history information during the hiring process.

The bill requires further approval by the Mayor and Congress, and the District Council needs to allocate necessary budgetary resources for enforcement. If approved, the act is expected to take effect on June 30, 2024.
