Each year, Forbes partners with Statista, an independent market research firm, to conduct in-depth consumer interviews across the U.S. to determine the best credit unions in each state. This year, more than 31,000 residents from all 50 states were surveyed on their banking relationships.

Scores and rankings were based on a 1-100 scale of consumer opinions of overall recommendations and satisfaction with an institution’s trust and transparency, terms and conditions, branch, digital and customer service, and financial advice. Additionally, award winners were determined based on a sentiment analysis of public reviews and ratings from March 2020 through April 2023. Of the thousands of credit unions in the U.S., only 147 earned best-in-state rankings.
