Chesapeake High School is Site of First Financial FCU’s 4th Student Run CU Branch
First Financial of Maryland Federal Credit Union is pleased to announce that Chesapeake High School in Baltimore County has been named as the location for their fourth, student-run high school branch. The branch is slated to open with the start of the 2010-2011 school year.
‘We are proud to continue our partnership with Baltimore County Public Schools to enhance the financial literacy of our high school students. The Chesapeake High School community will be a great addition to this Program,” stated Rob Windsor, First Financial FCU President/CEO. In addition to teaching young adults how to manage their money, the student-run branches also provides valuable business experience for students considering a career in the financial industry.
The Bayhawk Branch, named for the Chesapeake High School mascot, will serve the students, faculty and staff of the school. It will be open for business during the school lunch hours and will be run by student interns from the senior class and a faculty advisor. Members utilizing the branch will be able to make deposits, open new accounts, make limited cash withdrawals and receive general information about all of the credit union services. All high school branches of First Financial FCU operate in an off-line environment with final processing of transactions taking place at the main office of the credit union. The three other high school branches of First Financial are located in Dundalk, Lansdowne and Eastern Technical High Schools in Baltimore County.
The student-run branches are just one component of the many youth programs First Financial FCU has developed to address the growing need for financial literacy among young adults. The credit union also works in conjunction with high schools within their field of membership to teach classes on financial matters such as credit management, maintaining a checking account, understanding credit & debit cards and choosing a financial institution, to name a few. Online courses are also available at their website at http://www.firstfinancial.org.
