Cooperative Advertising Campaign

The MDDCCUA Cooperative Advertising Campaign resumed Thursday, May 19, with a strategy to promote credit unions throughout the region through social and earned media.

Well-known economist Anirban Basu will begin blogging on behalf of credit unions as part of the ongoing Cooperative Advertising Campaign. The blog, at www.WhatsInItForMe.org/blog, will focus on larger economic issues and emphasize how they affect consumers – and how credit unions can provide answers to finan//cial challenges. Basu, a keynote speaker at recent MDDCCUA Annual Conventions, will post his blogs in conjunction with www.whatsinitforme.org (WIIFM), a web site developed as part of the Coop Ad campaign to highlight advantages of credit unions to consumers. Members of the Community Outreach Committee – all proven CU marketers - will support the blogs with their own entries and comments.

Prospective members can link from either site to www.findacreditunion.com, a national search engine that matches potential members with credit unions that fit their eligibility and needs

Consumers will be driven to the blog through several avenues, including Google Adwords, and social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter, Yelp! and other outlets. Social media consultant Alan Brocius of New Age Lead Generation administers the online media aspect, already increasing search engine optimization (SEO) that has driven higher numbers to the consumer site.

Public relations consultants Weiss PR Associates will drive a partnering campaign about Basu’s involvement and credit union benefits through articles and other coverage in trade periodicals, print and electronic media. Other traditional advertising media, including metro bus advertising, also is being examined.

You Can Help The Campaign - - And Your Credit Union!

Regional credit unions can help promote the Cooperative Advertising Campaign in several ways:

  • As a supporter of the CU movement, feel free to read, comment and share blog posts with colleagues and members.
  • Credit union marketers can provide information about the blogs on their own Facebook and Twitter pages to drive consumers to the site. Email blasts to your CU members regarding our consumer efforts would be valuable in spreading the word.
  • Remember to update your credit union’s profile at www.findacreditunion.com and select the Update Your Records link. If you do not have a user name or password, contact Paul Rosenberger at 443-325-0766 and the information will be sent to you.
