Credit Scoring and Analysis

Once a loan representative learns the basics of lending fundamentals, the next step is to hone their lending decision skills.  This step is the difference between the average loan order-taker and a member-friendly loan counselor who works with the member and the credit union to develop a solution that benefits the member’s financial standing and the credit union’s bottom line.

  • Gain knowledge of how credit scores are calculated
  • Read a credit report like a pro
    ●    Discover which items are not included in the credit score
    ●    Evaluate what can hurt or improve a score
  • Learn how to use the credit report to capture more loan opportunities
  • Find the best approach to teaching your members how to improve their scores and strengthen member loyalty
      
Analyzing Credit and Making Good Loans
  • Determine the right approach to underwriting member loan applications
  • Understand the guidelines for secured and unsecured lending
  • Discover the predictors of bankruptcy
  • Learn how to evaluate and managerisk
  • Understand the correct way to analyze a member’s total debt ratio
  • Find out how to underwrite higher-risk loans
  • Develop a strategy to make as many good loans as possible at your credit union
 
Speaker
Celeste Cook has been in the credit union industry for 18 years and has 15 years of experience in management and expertise in business development, sales and service, and lending strategies. Celeste attributes her successes throughout her career to her passion, tenacity, and innovative strategies. Celeste has developed departments from inception, e.g., a university-style professional development department and a business development department. She has planned and led successful initiatives in business development, sales and service, lending, performance-driven programs, and leadership development programs. Celeste has also served as a business development consultant and conducted lending schools for credit unions while working for Lending Solutions Inc. It is Celeste’s passion for the Credit Union philosophy of “people helping people” that serves as the driving force behind her successes and her ability to motivate, inspire, and energize her audiences. Celeste has a degree in business management.
